Mrs. Hsi-Yin Yu ("Lily") Jen went home to be with her Lord on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the age of 95.  Her extended family celebrates her long life and deep love for our Lord Jesus Christ: Enoch & Nancy Jen, Kyle & Michelle Jen (Isaac, Nicholas, Lucy), Katie & Matt Terpstra (Dylan, Ella, Mady); Liz & Dale Deppe, Jeremy & Daniela Deppe (Marcus, Aaron, Alen), Kristin & Nate Meldrim (Andrew, Jonah, Lily); Calvin & Karen Jen, Christa & Phil Grabowski (Cara, Anna, Paul, Noah), Matt & Corina Jen (Owen, Oliver, Everett), Michael & Rachel Jen (Marin, Simon, Gideon), Sarah Jen and Derik Eckhardt (Hazel); Casey & Laura Jen, Nathan Jen, Tim & Elizabeth Jen (Gabriel), Becky & Luke Getz (Natalie, Kateri); Zhongwei Yu, and Yvette & Peter Madany.  Both Mrs. Lily Jen and her husband, Rev. Isaac Jen (1927-1988) were born and raised in Shanghai, China.  They were married in 1950 while he was studying at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  After further studies at Calvin Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Rev. Jen was ordained as the first Chinese minister in the Christian Reformed Church in 1955 to serve as a home missionary to the Chinese-speaking people in Chicago, Illinois.  After three years of pastoral and evangelistic service in Chicago, Rev. and Mrs. Jen spent the next ten years as foreign missionaries in Taiwan, where he did pastoral work, seminary teaching, and radio broadcasting.  After five years of health recovery and translation work, Rev. Jen became the first Chinese-language minister for the Back to God Hour (now ReFrame) in Chicago, Illinois.  From 1973 until his retirement in 1988, Rev. and Mrs. Jen brought the Gospel to China via medium- and short-wave radio transmissions.  Since 1988, Mrs. Jen lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan to be near her extended family.  To honor our parents' life-long commitment to missions, and instead of flowers, donations are suggested toward either The Isaac and Lily Jen Missions Scholarship at Calvin Theological Seminary, or The Rev. Isaac I. Jen Chair in Chinese Broadcast Ministry Endowment Fund at ReFrame Ministries.  The family thanks the care providers of Holland Home Breton Woods for their loving care for Lily.  The family will greet friends on Saturday, July 6, from 4 - 6 PM at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49508.  A private family memorial service will be held. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Our sympathies to the entire Jen family.. We are sorry we were not able to attend the visitation and express our condolences in person. Lots of wonderful memories of Rev and Mrs Jen and the family. It was always fun to run into Casey, family and Lily at Princeton vacation Bible school family night when our grandchildren attended .

It was my provilege to work at the Back-to-God Hour as Radio Minister for Arabic Broadasting, fro m 1958-1994.
We welcomed Rev. Isaad Jen in 1973, when he assumed the position of Minister for Chinese Broadcasting, proclaiming the Good News of Salvation in Jesus Christ to the millions of Chinese-speakin g people. He was a kind, friendly, and scholarly man of God just at the time when radio was the only way to spread the Christian Faith.

Personally, I am thankful that they sponsered a relative of Lily, Yvette Ho, to come to the USA and study at Chicago Chrsitian High, and continue at Trinity Chrstian College. My son Peter met her there, and in the Lord's providence, they were married forty years ago.Family of Rev. Jen, I consider myself part of the extened family. Yvette kept me updated on Lily's news regularly!
