Rev. Richard Emery VanNorman, age 90, of Caledonia, MI, was called to his eternal home on Monday, May 20, 2024. Born in Durand, WI, Richard's life was forever changed in his late 30's when he acknowledged the need for his Savior, Jesus Christ, who called him to turn from his former ways and follow Him. Richard and his wife, JoAnn, sold their grocery store in Winona, Minnesota, and moved with their three youngest children to Michigan where he attended the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music. After graduation, he completed an internship at Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Rapids and then faithfully served as pastor of visitation there for over 30 years where he was a blessing to so many. He loved people, fishing, hunting, chainsaws, and fried chicken. His youngest son, Richard W. VanNorman, preceded him in death.  Richard will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, JoAnn (Blyton) VanNorman; children, Rick & Kathy (Kowalewski) VanNorman, Kyle & Linda (Schreiber) VanNorman, Renee & Dale Simmons, Kevin & Tamie (Hauskins) VanNorman, Beth (Warren) VanNorman, 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Nelle Posner; in-laws, Gayle VanNorman, Otis Blyton, Brad & Lynda Blyton, Anna Blyton; and many nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors from 10 am - 12 noon on Friday, May 24, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1200 - 28th St. SE, where the funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Rev. Jeff Halsted will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highway Connections, 4554 48th Ave. Suite B, Hudsonville, MI 49426  https://highwayconnections.org/donate/.

Pastor Van was a friend when my family needed one. I won't go into details but I will always be grateful to him.
Another time when my mother in law passed he got me out of Bible Study and drove me to the hospital and helped us through everything. He was always there when needed.
Praying for the family..
