Artel J. Scheid (Newhouse), age 85, of Alto, entered into the arms of Jesus on Friday, March 15, 2024. Artel graduated from Grand Rapids Central High, Hope College and obtained her Master's degree from the University of Michigan.  She taught school for the Grand Rapids Public and Dutton Elementary School where she loved volunteering in her retirement. An avid sports enthusiast, she loved spending time with her family and attending all her grandchildren's activities.  Her husband, Arthur, parents, Henry and Marie Newhouse, and sister-in-law, Geraldine Newhouse, preceded her in death. Artel will be deeply missed by her children, Sheryl Scheid (Andy), Kimberly Lierman (Chris), Daniel (Laura) Scheid, David (Jill) Scheid, Julie (Bryan) Klimkiewicz; grandchildren, Rev. Joshua (Kathryn) Scheid, Alyssa Lierman, Ashley Lierman, Christina Scheid, Rebecca Scheid, Brendan Scheid, Lauren Scheid, Nolan Klimkiewicz, Chase Klimkiewicz, Alaina Klimkiewicz; eight great grandchildren; brother, Arthur Newhouse; several nieces and nephews. Artel will be deeply missed by her Lakeside Community Church family. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, from 2- 4 and 6 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 23, at Lakeside Community Church, 6201 Whitneyville Ave. SE, Alto, with Rev. Joshua Scheid officiating. Interment in Fairplains Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the GEMS program at Lakeside Community Church.
