Arnold Jay Groeneveld, age 91, of Byron Center, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marlene (Molly) Groeneveld; his parents, Albert and Catherine Groeneveld; brothers, Ken (Jane) Groeneveld and Lee Groeneveld; and sisters, Grace Tuttle and Lois Zartman. Arnold is survived by his sister, Mary (Bruce) Bendull, and brothers-in-law, Robert Tuttle and Ron Zartman. 

Arnold is lovingly remembered by his three children, Brian (Lisa) Groeneveld, Kevin (Deb) Groenveld, and Kristi (Frank) Garzelloni. He was the proud grandfather of Brianna, Michael (Lindsay), Jacob (Skylee), Kaylee, Aaron (Cassi), Kegan (Monica), Emily (Ryan), Nicklas, Shelby, Molly, Jillian, Frank, and Giada. He also cherished his great-grandchildren, Roman, Dalton, Goldie, Gabriella, Lindy, and one more expected to arrive next week. 

Arnie graduated from Wayland High School. He served 21 years in the United States Army Reserve before retiring. A competitive and active man, he enjoyed bowling, fast-pitch softball, golf, tennis, and chess. For many years, he worked at the Fulton Street Farmers Market in Grand Rapids, selling fresh produce and spending countless hours carefully selecting fruit from local growers for the family stand. 

Later in life, Arnold and Marlene retired to Sebring, Florida, where he stayed active with golf and tennis and embraced the warm Florida weather. 

A man who lived life fully and with quiet strength, Arnold will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. 

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 4 with the funeral service immediately following at 3:00 PM at Moline Baptist Church, 4428 Chappel Ave., Moline, MI 49335, with Kevin Groeneveld, officiating. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Arnold may be made to Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods, 8214 Pfeiffer Farms Dr SW, Byron Center, MI 49315.

  • Our care for the families we serve does not end when the service is over.  In addition to offering assistance with social security, veteran’s benefits, and life insurance claims, we also contact each family within the weeks following the loss of a loved one to make sure all of their needs are being met.  There are many details that need to be attended to, and the process can seem overwhelming.  It is our desire to make sure each family receives the guidance needed to make that process as smooth as possible.
  • Because each family we serve has a unique set of circumstances, each family’s needs following the death of a loved one is also unique.  Our aftercare coordinator will be able to provide contact information for the various grief support resources that will best meet the individual’s need.
