Lucille Young, age 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Lucy was born to Gladys and LaRue Mudget on February 14, 1938. She was the perfect gift for Valentine's Day, the fourth of the eventual seven children. Lucy lived an active life. From driving bus in her earlier years to selling vacuum cleaners to working alongside her husband, Ed, on the family farm, Lucy was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who always strove to provide for her family. She was creative and enjoyed tending to her garden and flowers, canning, decorating cakes, doing various crafts, and could often be heard singing. She loved the Lord and was a longtime active member of Byron Center Bible Church. Her grandchildren were especially dear to her and she cherished her time with them. Lucy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ed (Cathy) Young, Jr., Marie Young - Knight, Dan (Deb) Young, Raymond (Ida) Young; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Gary (Liz) Stuifbergen; her sister-in-law, Judy Mudget; many nieces and nephews. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Edward Young, Sr.; her son-in-law, Don Knight; as well as five siblings and several of their spouses. The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, May 27, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 28, at Byron Center Bible Church, 8855 Byron Center Ave. SW, Byron Center, with Pastor Chad DeJong, Pastor Ron Tuinstra, and Pastor Mike McClish officiating. Interment will be in Jones Cemetery, Dorr, MI. Memorial contributions to Byron Center Bible Church Missions or to Faith Hospice will be appreciated.

Aftercare Information

  • Our care for the families we serve does not end when the service is over.  In addition to offering assistance with social security, veteran’s benefits, and life insurance claims, we also contact each family within the weeks following the loss of a loved one to make sure all of their needs are being met.  There are many details that need to be attended to, and the process can seem overwhelming.  It is our desire to make sure each family receives the guidance needed to make that process as smooth as possible.
  • Because each family we serve has a unique set of circumstances, each family’s needs following the death of a loved one is also unique.  Our aftercare coordinator will be able to provide contact information for the various grief support resources that will best meet the individual’s need.
