James William Post, age 68, passed away at home with his fiancee by his side. Jim was a 1976 graduate of East Kentwood High School. He continued his education at Kendall School of Art and Design, earning a 3 year Associates Degree in Art and Design. After college Jim worked at X-Rite, then at 2/90 Sign Systems as Paint Supervisor for the past 35 years. In November 2022 Jim retired with plans to increase his sailing time and continue working on his artwork, however health complications kept him from being able to achieve those dreams. If you’ve ever known Jim, you’d know his love for sailing and grilling on the boat in the summertime was his passion, sometimes feeding more people than he could fit on his boat but that didn’t matter. He would entertain us with stories about his past sailing adventures and the time he spent on Lake Macatawa with his father in his earlier years or his year of traveling the United States with his best friend John Fox. Most times it was difficult to distinguish whether he was telling a tall tale or if it was real, that's what earned him the nickname ”1/10 of one percent” because most times all you could believe of his stories. So, to have known Jim was to love him and his many talents because that’s what he did best, “he loved to cook, sail and tell stories and knew stuff.” Occasionally, he even made history by taking his sailboat out of the slip!! When this happened, it was like the “Mark Your Calendar Event” of the season! Jim is survived by his fiancee, Shawn (Young); daughter, Heather (Taylor) Ten Harmsel; parents, Warren (Jim) and Ardith Post; brother, Jon (Vicki) Post; nieces and nephew, Ian (Andrea) Post, Hannah (Andrew) Berlin, and Lauren (Scott) Miller; great-nephews, Rowan, Elliot, Johnny, Caden; and great-niece, Ezra; Shawn’s grandsons, Ian and Nathan and daughter, Michelle; and most notably great-niece, Rayne; Jim’s partner in mischief, who loved Jim more than he knew. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Robert (Bob) Post. Jim’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Faith Hospice, Corewell Health Teams, and Palliative Care Team, for the support and care they provided Jim in his journey. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the following organizations: Faith Hospice, Kent County Humane Society or Meals on Wheels. Visitation will take place at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508. Family will greet friends and family on April 21st, 2026, from 2-4 and 5-7 pm. |
