Sandra "Sandy" Fridley (Sebrell), age 86, of Caledonia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, and went to be with her Lord. We celebrate the life of a truly special woman, Sandy—a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. She wore many titles throughout her life, but no matter the role, she filled it with love, warmth, and kindness. Her family was at the center of everything she did, and she showed up—again and again—for the people she loved. Sandy loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She had a deep love for games and rarely missed an event for someone she loved. She was always the most enthusiastic supporter—and often the most competitive. You could find her cheering at swim meets, hockey games, baseball and football games, and cheer proudly supporting her family, even if it meant occasionally (and lovingly) embarrassing her grandkids from the sidelines. She didn’t just attend these moments—she made them more meaningful simply by being there. She celebrated life’s milestones right alongside her family—graduations, concerts, and all the moments in between. Her presence was a quiet but powerful way of saying, “You matter, and I’m proud of you.” One of the things everyone will remember most about Sandy is her smile. It was constant, genuine, and full of light—able to make people feel welcome, comforted, and understood without a single word. Sandy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved baking and never passed up a chance to enjoy as much chocolate as possible. She was often the first to introduce sweets to her grandchildren, creating little traditions they will always carry with them. She was incredibly creative, with a beautifully decorated home that reflected her warmth and personality. She spent many years crafting, always making something by hand, with her most recent passion being stained glass. In her younger years, Sandy was actively involved in her church and remained someone who valued connection, service, and community throughout her life. She worked for many years at Kentwood High School and continued to stay involved by working numerous sporting events long after, maintaining the relationships and environment she loved so much. What Sandy leaves behind is more than memories—it is a legacy of love, of showing up, and of caring deeply for others. The example she set will live on in all who knew her—in the way we support one another, celebrate each other, and take time to be present. Though it is difficult to say goodbye, we are deeply grateful for the life she lived and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always carried in our hearts. Sandy will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Bob; children, Deanna Fridley, Derrek (Stacia) Fridley; grandchildren, Makenzie (Logan) Maas, Hunter Fridley, Wade Fridley, Devin Fridley - Bell; sister and brother, Karen Hulbert, Jim (Pat) Sebrell; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Kurtis; parents, Carl and Laurine Sebrell; brothers, Gary and Tom Sebrell; sisters, Jacqueline Jegla and Janice Case. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, April 10, from 10 -11 am prior to the service at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft Avenue SE, Caledonia, where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 am, with Fr. Phil Shangraw as celebrant. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kids Food Basket. |
