Deacon Michael Lee Wood of Grand Rapids, Michigan, was born April 10, 1945, and passed away peacefully the morning of Tuesday, March 17, 2026, surrounded by family. Michael is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol; son, Michael Wood Jr & his wife Suzan; daughter, Robyn Morse & her husband Mike; and daughter, Kristyn Ries & her husband Tony; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Michael faithfully answered his calling as a deacon dedicating 48 years of ministering to St. Mary Magdalen parish, and 25 years to the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids. His ministry extended far beyond the walls of the church. He started the Healing of Racism with Melita Travis Johnson. Also, visited hospitals, nursing homes and other facilities to deliver Gods word and Eucharist. Michael was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his family. In retirement you could find Michael at Railside Golf Course 7 days a week, he made lifelong friendships there. When he wasn’t golfing, he loved sailing and looked forward to his annual Father’s Day Sail with his children, Mike, Robyn and Kristyn. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and so many lives he touched over his years of service. A Vigil service will be held on Friday, April 17, at 7pm at St. Mary Magdalen Church. A celebration of Deacon Michael Wood’s Life will be held at 11 AM Saturday, April 18, at St. Mary Magdalen Parish, 1253 - 52nd St. SE in Kentwood, Michigan, with visitation prior to the service from 10 - 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to AdvisaCare Home Health Hospice whose care and support allowed Michael to pass peacefully at home. |
