Basil Leroy Bowerman, age 91, of Grand Rapids, MI went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 21, 2026.  Basil was a long-time member of Maplelawn Baptist Church.  He worked as an upholsterer at Steelcase and was well known for his custom upholstery which he enjoyed doing from his home. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan Bowerman; parents, Rollo and Mae Bowerman; siblings, Rollo Bowerman, Jr., Cleon Bowerman, Cleoria and Hank Elgersma; sister-in-law, MaryAnne Bowerman; second wife, Mary Fields.  Basil is lovingly remembered by his children, Steve (Jan) Bowerman, Mary (Ken) Bliss, Jeff (Pat) Bowerman; grandchildren, Nate, Dan, Sam, Michael, Ben, Melissa, Jeremy, Brian, Alex, Abigail; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Theron Bowerman; sister-in-law, Vivian Sims.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 26, from 6 to 8 PM at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49508.  The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27, at 12 Noon at Maplelawn Baptist Church, 124 Maplelawn St. SW, Wyoming, 49548, with Pastor Andrew Willis and Pastor Chuck Steiner officiating.  Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maplelawn Baptist Church.
