On Monday, March 16, 2026, our beloved Mother and Grand Mother, Cathryn Kay (Chapin) Casey was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a brief illness. Her suffering ended and her rejoicing in Heaven has begun. Cathy was a daughter, friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother during her long and wonderful life here on earth. A member of South United Methodist Church for 60 plus years, she served her church family tirelessly. From rummage sales to funeral luncheons, to a long run in the choir, she was an extension of God’s love to so many people in that congregation. Always involved in anything God called her to help with. In recent years, she began attending Oasis at Kentwood Community Church, where she quickly developed strong friendships. Her close friends at both of those locations will miss her dearly. Cathy loved spending time with family and friends, spending many summers camping in her favorite place, Pentwater. Another group of friends from those years that will miss her loving ways. Her daughters and then grandchildren have so many fond memories of time spent there and will cherish them forever. Cathy will be fondly remembered for how she made people feel. You were always welcome in her home where you were treated as if you were one of her own. Many considering her a bonus Mom or Grandma. To know her was to love her. Left to carry on her legacy are daughters, Cori Oakley, and Julie Dieterle; son-in-law, Steve Dieterle; six grandchildren, Jessica Igwenagha (Peter), Jonathon Oakley (Brittany), Susanna Schlarf (Sawyer), Jackson Dieterle, Isaac Dieterle, and Benjamin Dieterle. She was also blessed to have added two great grandchildren to her family line, Lucas Igwenagha, and Seppo Schlarf. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday, March 27, from 9 to 11 AM at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49508, where the funeral service will begin at 11 AM. Pastor Curtis Thompson will officiate. Interment will be in Floral View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to North Kent Connect (www.nkconnect.org/support). |
