Michael Larry Thomas, Sr. aged 83, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully in his home and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 4:30 PM. Michael honorably served his country in two tours with the U.S. Marine Corps. He also served with the National Guard and received a humanitarian award for taking food and medicine to people in remote areas on a snowmobile during the winter blizzard of 1978. He worked for many years at Steelcase until retirement. Michael enjoyed being a member of New Horizons Ministry Center. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heidi Lynn Thomas. He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Michael L. Thomas, Jr.; his granddaughter, Holly; and several extended family and friends.  Private burial has taken place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 10 - 11 am at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Pastor Ken King will officiate.
