Laurajean (Jellema) Quakkelaar, aged 95, formerly of Prospect Park, New Jersey, now residing in Kentwood, MI, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Laurajean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She showed her love of Christ by working as a CNA for 40 plus years and in retirement working for Visiting Angels. She was a talented knitter and crocheter and loved scrapbooking. She has made many afghans and slippers for Chemo patients and helped make 150 pairs of slippers for a Widows Retreat. Each of her children and grandchildren were blessed with an afghan and scrapbook made by her and a book of her life story. She also loved going on road trips and outings with the girls. Laurajean was preceded in death by her first husband of 27 years, Frank Jellema; and second husband of 13 years, Peter Quakkelaar; brother, Clarence Wondergem, son-in-law, Ken Koster; and step-son Garry Quakkelaar. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Kim Koster, Gail (Gary) Arndt, and Bonnie (Kevin) Hines; "bonus daughter" and longtime friend, Terry (Randy) Mauchmar; step-children, Anita Byson, Ron (Michelle) Quakkelaar, Larry (Deb) Quakkelaar, Martie Quakkelaar, Peter (Sherri) Quakkelaar; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; sisters, Gen Douma, Connie Wondergem, Betsy (Gary) Fischer, brothers, John (Bev) Wondergem, David (Sheryl) Wondergem, sisters-in-law, Anna Wondergem, Janet Jellema; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Trillium Woods and Breton Woods for the wonderful care extended to Laurajean. The family will greet visitors on Tuesday, May 6, from 10 -11 am at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, where the funeral service will begin at 11 am. Rev. Ken VanWyk will officiate. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Hospice Trillium Woods. |
