Thomas J VanHaften, born May 8, 1937, (87) was greeted by his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 28, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He leaves behind is loving wife, Ruth of 67 years, his brother Dick VanHaften (Rose), his sister Sally Hendricks (Tom), sisters-in-law Jeanne Roosien and Ruth Roosien, many wonderful nieces and nephews and several dear friends. He will be missed by his very special family and friends at Thornapple Manor, that with gratitude we give thanks for the outstanding care and love they showed Tom.
He was preceded in death by his parents Freeman J and Irene VanHaften, his brother Dan VanHaften (Arlene) and his son Thomas R VanHaften.
Tom served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Franklin D Roosevelt CV-42 and was a proud supporter of veterans.
Tom went on to become one of the finest master wood craftsman and clock finisher. He was also an artist and loved to paint.
Tom was a very loyal husband and friend. Anyone who met Tom (affectionately known as The Mister) loved him. He will be remembered with great fondness.

One of my fondest memories is the foot races we frequently ran. My legs are longer than his and he still left me in the dust. So we decided that he had to jump in the air and complete a 360 degree spin while landing on one foot before he could start running.
