With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gayle Eward Kelly, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Gayle passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Gayle was known for her warmth, kindness, strength, and unwavering faith. She pursued her passion for nursing, earning a degree in Nursing Administration Medical Surgery from Nazareth College and later obtaining a Master’s degree in nursing from Andrews University. Throughout her career, Gayle traveled across the country, combining her love for new experiences with her dedication to leadership in the nursing field. Gayle was the heart of her family, always putting others first and radiating a spirit of love and compassion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Madeline Griffiths; her brother, Lyle Griffiths; and her husband of 20 years, Dr. R. Donald Eward. Later in life, Gayle reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Dennis Kelly, and they were blessed with five wonderful years of marriage. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her five children, Tom (Sheryl) O’Connor, Tim (Cari) O’Connor, Dan (Faith) O’Connor, Debbie (Scott) Roosien, and Katie (Mike) Saladino; stepchildren, Kenneth Eward, Dennis “Clay” Kelly, Karmen Kelly. She will be deeply missed by her ten grandchildren, TJ, Carrie, Meaghan, Kendall, Paige, Colin, Rick, Christy, Joseph (JoJo), and Anthony (Ant); fifteen great-grandchildren, Nora, Rowan, Flynn, Addie, Roux, William, Claire, Luke, Madeline, Riley, Finley, Sadie, Owen, Malia, and Maeve; as well as all who knew and loved her. A visitation and rosary will be held on Sunday, March 30, from 5 to 7 PM at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49508, the rosary will be recited at 7 PM. A Christian Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft Ave. SE, Caledonia, 49316, on Tuesday, April 1, at 11 AM with a one-hour visitation prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM. Father Michael Cilibraise will be presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gayle’s memory to Holy Family Catholic Church in Caledonia. |
