Anne Ambrose Obituary Anne (Gorman) Ambrose, December 2, 1951 – February 16, 2025 Born and raised in Lansing, MI to Keith & Mary Anne Gorman, Anne attended Lansing Public Schools (Everett HS Class of 1970), where she enjoyed academic and social success throughout her years. After graduation, Anne worked for the State of Michigan Income Tax Division. She married Jonathan (Jock) Ambrose in 1974, and together they began a 50+ year journey by moving to Eugene, Oregon for Jock to finish his university studies. In1976, Anne and Jock, with their daughter Becky, moved to Kentwood, MI where Anne resided for the rest of her life. They were later joined by son Brian and daughter Katey. Anne worked as a Early Childhood Paraprofessional at several Kentwood Public Schools, retiring in 2008. She also worked several years at SCRIP (RaiseRight). A pivotal part of Anne’s life was her involvement with the Kentwood Swimming Community, where Jock coached. Known as “Mrs. A,” “Mrs. Coach,” or simply “Mom” to many aquatic athletes, Anne served as a steady and loving support for over 48 years. Anne was deeply loved by all who knew her for her unwavering dedication to the success and well-being of those she supported. Many friends now grieve her death and remember the great times they shared over decades in East Kentwood Swimming and Diving. Anne’s greatest joy and commitment were to her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren: Gavan and Jordyn Ernst, Ethan and Isaac Ambrose, and her "bonus grandchildren”, Bailey Walters and Brody Hansen. "Chasing grandkids" was always the greatest job in the world—and they all knew she felt that way! Anne is predeceased by her parents, Keith & Mary Anne Gorman; in-laws, Bruce and Betty Ambrose; brother-in-law Edwin Ambrose; and all generations preceding her. Along with her family already listed, she is survived by her brother, Thomas (Linda) Gorman of Onondaga, MI; son-in-law Todd Ernst (Becky) of Forest Hills, MI and daughter-in-law Sarah Ambrose (Brian) of Grand Haven, ; in-laws Cathy Ambrose of Brookline, MA, Kitty (Steve) Miller of Westminster, CO, Marty (Cindy) Ambrose of Dayton, OH, and Carolyn Ambrose of Haslett, MI; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who join in our grief. Anne was a fiercely loyal friend and a shining example of moral integrity, always committed to treating all living beings—especially our pets and "fur babies"—with kindness and care. The family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, February 22, from 10 - 12 noon and also from 1 - 3 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to local animal shelters and rescues. Anne believed in protecting the vulnerable, caring for those around us, and making the world a better place. Sobriety is a goal that can only be achieved ONE DAY AT A TIME!! |
