Thomas Alan Westra, age 67, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 11, 2025. A graduate of South Christian High School, Tom went on to work as a crane operator in the construction field for many years. He enjoyed "hunting" and fishing, Saturday cards with his brothers, going to the airport and watching airplanes, and especially spending time with his family. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Gradus and Catherine Westra, his stepmother, Geraldine Westra, his sister, Carol Oppenhuizen, and his brother, David Westra. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Amanda (Michael) VanMaanen, Kelly (Bryan) Gray, and Mary Westra (Erik Ryder); his grandchildren, Kamden, Avery, Madison, and Ben; his brothers, Ron (Judy) Westra, Don (Ruth) Westra, Gord (Marcia) Westra; his sister-in-law, Judy Westra; his brother-in-law, Roger (Lois) Oppenhuizen; many nieces and nephews. The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, January 13, from 5 - 8 PM and on Tuesday, January 14, from 10 - 11 AM at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th Street SE, Grand Rapids, where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM. Private interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Corewell Health Hospice in recognition of the loving care provided to Tom and his family.
