Gerrit Scholten, age 82, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Helene; his children, Camie and Tim Sleeman, Mark and Denise Scholten, Caren and Rex Henning; his grandchildren, Teresa and Todd Wandell, Danielle Ortiz, Caleb and Samantha Sleeman, Isaiah and Jordyn Sleeman, Brittney and Justin Greenway, Levi and K.C. Scholten, Joshua Scholten, Bryce Henning, Bailey Henning, and Breana Henning; eight great grandchildren with two more on the way; his brothers and sister, John and Shirley Scholten, Harry and Colette Scholten, Vera and Robert Pike; as well as many nieces and nephews. Gerrit was preceded in death by his parents, Warner and Greta Scholten, and a grandson, Julio Ortiz. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 9:00 - 10:30 AM at Cutlerville East Christian Reformed Church (501 68th Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49548), and will be followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. Rev. Joe VandenAkker will officiate. Interment in Blain Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice in recognition of the loving care provided to Gerrit and his family.
