Ronald L. Herlein, age 85, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Ronald was born on November 21, 1938, and later graduated from Godwin Heights High School. He lived in Grand Rapids most of his life. Ron’s career history included working for the Herlein Company, a family owned business for many years, before coming to work for Gordon Foods Service, where he worked for almost 36 years prior to his retirement.  Ron was also very involved in his church. He was the choir director, song leader, and a frequent soloist through the years. He even traveled to various churches to sing in the early years. He had a heart for missions and went on 11 missions trips through the years to various countries, including Central and South Americas and Africa. In his later years, he was a member at Gaines (United Brethren in Christ) Church.  Throughout the years, Ron had a passion for trains and loved all versions from modern freight trains to model trains and collectables. He enjoyed working in his yard, watching NASCAR, and listening to Christian music.  His parents, Carroll and Bertha Herlein, and brother and sister-in-law, James and Betty Herlein, preceded him in death.  Ron will be deeply missed by his wife of 67 years, Patricia; children, David (Joan) Herlein, Daniel Herlein, Becky (Daniel) Cooke, Amy Herlein, Duane (Teresa) Herlein; grandchildren, Ashley (Eric) Rhude, Chelsea Herlein, Andrew (Lauren) Herlein, Shelby (Kyle) Lewellen, Bethany Cooke, Paul (Natalia) Cooke, Noah Cooke, Chad Cooke, Tyler Herlein, Mitchel Herlein; great grandchildren, Christopher, Micah, Josephine, Theodore; and many nieces and nephews.  The family will greet visitors on Friday, Nov. 1, from 5 to 7 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, and on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at Gaines Church, 1612 92nd St. SE, Caledonia, MI. Funeral Services will be held 1:30 PM, November 2, 2024 at Gaines Church, with Pastor Tom Datema officiating.  Interment will be in Blain Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Ronald Herlein may be made to the World Gospel Mission.

Our deepest sympathies are with all of you as you mourn this great loss. We have enjoyed Uncle Ron's company for decades and his anecdotes at so many family meals in recent years. He will be missed but not forgotten. We know he is now in the presence of His Lord and Savior, singing for Jesus in person! Our prayers as you go thru this process of grief. May God grant you HIs peace now and, "as time passes, help you move toward the day when the comfort of your memories is greater than the sorrow of your loss".
