Dorothy M. Folkertsma Bonga, age 94, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with her Lord and her heavenly family on Friday, August 2, 2024. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Roger; son, David; parents, Kenneth and Dorothy Folkertsma; and brother, Jim. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Roger Jr. (Marie) Bonga, Pamela (William) Eland, Patricia (Keith) VanLiere, Jon Bonga; grandchildren, Paul (Stacey) Eland, Charles (Jennifer) Eland, Tegan (Jonathan) Lewis, Kendra Bonga, David II (Taylor) Bonga, Allison VanLiere, Keelin Bonga, Andrew (Grace) Weissenborn, Benjamin Weissenborn, Emily Weissenborn; and ten great-grandchildren. A private family service and interment in Woodlawn Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association. The family wishes to thank the gracious staff of Holland Home’s Raybrook Manor and Faith Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Dorothy.
