Service Information

 Gladys Mae Lynch

Service: Announcement in summer of 2024

Memorials: Wedgwood Christian Services, 3300 36th Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512 https://www.wedgwood.org/giving/

Gladys Mae Lynch, went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early hours of March 22, 2024, at the age of 91. Gladys or fondly referred to as Grammy or Gladdy was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law, and best friend to her daughter and grandson. No matter the health issues or other challenges in her life she found joy and thankfulness in every moment. She loved unconditionally and was so positive, loving, caring, honest, humorous, fun, selfless and loved the Lord and her family with all her heart!

Gladdy was born on May 11, 1932, in Jefferson Township, Pennsylvania. She graduated from High School in Clairton, Pennsylvania. Moved to Ludington, MI in 1968. She grew up in the Baptist Church, and currently attends on-line Frontline Community Church. She was married and was widowed in 1995. At this time (1995) she purchased a home with her daughter in Walker, MI. She helped raise her grandson with her daughter and the three have always been very close. Her and her daughter, best friends for life.

Gladdy had several different jobs throughout her life from working at a Five and Dime and ice cream stores when she was young, or when she was an adult various manufacturing jobs making watches, packing sweet cherries, running a summer recreational center for teens, baking amazing pies for restaurants and winning awards as a Avon sales representative.

Her most loved job was at Hope Network’s Side by Side program, which was a day program for clients with Dementia or Alzheimer’s. She was hired at the age of 70 as an Activity Assistant. The clients never forgot her. She brought warmth, caring, and fun to the clients. She was very creative with games, music, dancing, special makeovers at Christmas for the clients. The clients called her Sparkle, not only for the outfits she wore with bling and the glitter in her hair she specifically did for the clients, but more so the caring light of her personality. The clients knew she loved and cared for them.

In 2015 she moved to a condo in Kentwood, MI with her daughter. She loved living there with her daughter and best friend, spending time caring for each other and having wonderful conversations and quality time together. She enjoyed watching the birds, especially the mourning doves (one named Chickee) and the small squirrel that would occasionally visit on the deck. She loved the family dachshund dogs, S'mores, Cherry, and Sophie. She enjoyed decorating and celebrating the holidays. The most important part of life for Gladdy was her family.

Gladdy is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Lewis, father John Lewis, sister, Elsie Hood, Margaret Lewis, brothers Frank Lewis and John Lewis, and several nephews.

Gladdy is survived by her loving daughter, Sandy Boyer, grandson Eric Boyer, and his girlfriend Rebecca Manske. Her dear family friend, Walter (Bing) Higbee, sister-in-law Audrey Lewis, nieces Shari Bailey, Judy Anderson, Nancy Hood, Connie Richards, Peggy Fischer, and nephews Bob Young, and Jack Young and numerous cousins.

Gladdy was known to have a beautiful soul and a light to those around her. She loved others for who they were. She exemplified how Christ encourages us to love others unconditionally.

A Celebration of Life for Gladdy will be announced for the summer of 2024.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the children of Wedgwood Christian Services. The children were near and dear to her heart!
