Calvin H. Weidenaar, age 88, of Byron Center, went to be with his Lord on Friday, December 15, 2023. Cal was born in Chicago, IL, and earned his high school diploma through a GED program. He was a working man all his life. He worked at a service station and then with his brother-in-law, Rich Veldman, at a garbage company in Hinsdale, IL. After ending up with several back surgeries, he became a salesman in the waste handling equipment industry, a career he remained in until retirement. This brought a move to Battle Creek, MI, then after only a 1 1/2 year, a move to Byron Center, MI. Cal’s career brought him in contact with many colorful people and on many interesting adventures. Cal always had a love for hunting and fishing. He had annual trips he would take with good friends. As a hobby farmer in Byron Center, Cal owned cows, boarded horses, went to farm auctions, and tilled and farmed the land he owned. He had a way of accomplishing some of his passions, living a full and active life that many who knew him respected. Cal was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Grace. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Valerie Taylor and Vicki (Mark) DeVries; his grandchildren, Jeff DeLange, Paige Thomas, David (Julie) DeVries, Alex (Andrea) DeVries, Laura DeVries, William DeVries; his great grandchildren, Tristen, Zoey, and Hunter DeLange, Alaina and Ollin Cooke, Evelyn, Eddie, and Lucas DeVries; his sisters, Edith Veldman and Virginia Snyder; sisters-in-law, Marion VanDyke, Janet Weidenaarbrother-in-law, John Moes; as well as his nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Friday, December 22, from 11 AM - 1 PM at Stroo Funeral Home. Cal's family will gather privately for the funeral service. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Byron Center Christian School.

Our fathers were so different from each other in so many ways but in some key things they were the same, their love for Jesus and compassion for others! I praise God for Uncle Cal! My memories of him warm my heart! May our God grant you peace as you grieve the loss of his daily presence in you lives!
