DOUMA, WES
CUTLERVILLE, MI

Wes Douma was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the age of 82. After owning a service station in Cutlerville, Wes continued using his mechanical talents by working at Essenburg Equipment and later at Midway RV Center, where he retired. Wes served the community as a 25 year member of the Cutlerville Fire Department, where he was instrumental in beginning and organizing the annual Cutlerville Day Parade. In partnership with his brother, Ron and Norma, Wes and Mary owned and operated the Kool Kone ice cream shop and Cutlerville Carpet Golf for many years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and classic cars. Above all, he loved the Lord and his family. He was a loving and dedicated husband of 64 years to his wife, Mary (nee Vander Vliet). Together they were blessed with their children, Jan and Pat O'Leary, Rick and Jamie Douma, Curt and Jackie Douma, Lori and Tom Langenberg; 14 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. He will also be dearly missed by his sisters, Sharon (Vos) and Tom Pasma, Carla and Chris Tell; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Norma Douma, Kathy Douma, Sue and Gord Vander Kam, Karen and Leon Bronsink, Norma and Howie Glass, Don and Donna Vander Vliet; many nieces and nephews. Wes was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Renee; his parents, Bob and Florence Douma; brothers, Ron and Gary Douma; brother-in-law, Alfred Vos, and his parents-in-law, Dan and Florence Vander Vliet. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 22, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE. The funeral service will take place at Cutlerville East Christian Reformed Church, 501 68th St. SE, on Monday, October 23, at 11 AM, with Rev. Ed Visser officiating. Sorry for your loss. He was a great 1st boss of mine at Kool Kone. I still have to have the bills in a cash drawer straight because that’s what we had to do there.
