Thomas "Tom" Buettner, age 84, of Caledonia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2023. A U.S. Navy veteran, Tom was a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served in a variety of offices, most recently as Admiral. Tom loved history and was an active member of many organizations including Michigan Company of Military Historians and Collectors, Grand Rapids Historical Society, and West Michigan Antique Bottle Club. For over 30 years Tom gave a variety of educational presentations on a variety of topics to various associations and senior groups. Tom played the trumpet in various community orchestras, was an avid listener of Blue Lake Public Radio, and an alumni of Interlochen Center for the Arts. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathleen Hamilton, and Marjorie Buettner. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 + years, Phyllis; children, Lisa Lund, Mike (Mary) Buettner, Kevin Buettner; grandchildren, Emily Buettner, Isaac Buettner, Samuel Buettner, Kamryn Buettner, Hannah Lund; nephew, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Hamilton and their son, Taylor. The family will greet visitors on Thursday, October 12, from 4 - 7 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, where a Scripture service and sharing of memories will begin at 7 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, October 13, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1253 52nd St. SE, with Fr. Peter Vu as celebrant. There will also be an hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Lake Public Radio (https://bluelake.org/radio) or Interlochen Center for the Arts (https://www.interlochen.org).
