 Kenneth R. Holzhei

On May 17, 2023, Kenneth R. Holzhei went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Ken was born Oct. 26, 1941, in Saginaw, MI to Roy and Lillian Holzhei.  He attended St. Michael’s Lutheran School in Richville, was a 1959 graduate of Reese High School, and attended Delta College and Western Michigan University. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1960-1962.  He married Anita Young in Richville at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church on October 27, 1962.  She survives him. Ken farmed in the Reese-Frankenmuth area for 20 years with his Dad, Roy and Brother, Richard.  After going out of farming, Ken and Anita moved to AuGres, MI in 1982.  Along with sons, Rob and Shawn, they owned and operated AuGres Rock Stone Quarry for 10 years.  Ken loved hunting and fishing, playing tennis, and taking short-term mission trips.  They also traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, and many other states with their sons.  In 1987 Ken and Anita became involved in short-term mission trips through First Assembly of God in Saginaw.  They were part of many trips and joined Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Kona, Hawaii for 17 years.  This involvment took them to over 20 nations in South and Central America, the South Pacific, Southeast Asia and Africa.  Ken and Anita moved to the Grand Rapids area in 2016.  They attend Grand Rapids First Assembly of God Church.  Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons and their wives, Rob and Cindy Holzhei of Frankenmuth, Shawn and Cynthia Holzhei of Caledonia; Brother-in-law, Bill Rohloff of Holland, MI.  Sister-in-law, Arleen Rohloff, pre-deceased him.  The immediate family had a private graveside memorial at the Alaska Cemetery in Alaska, MI.  Pastor John Hanson officiated.  Those who wish to extend an expression of sympathy to the family may send them “in care of” to Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI, 49508.
