Roger Alan Grotenhuis, age 82, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away peacefully in his home and was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on April 20, 2023.  He was born on July 28, 1940 in Grand Haven, MI, to Art and Gertrude Grotenhuis.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanne (Moreland) Grotenhuis; sisters, Judy Blauwkamp (Ron), Karen Meiste, and Fern (David) Slotman; children, Diane (Mark) Vander Berg, Kraig (Sue) Grotenhuis, Kathy Grotenhuis, Dean Grotenhuis, Douglas Visser, Donald (Rebeka) Visser, Cindy (Mike) Vander Vennen, Dawn (Steve) Harper; 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Roger was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his family. He was an avid woodworker and builder, who dedicated much of his time to making items for others by spending many hours in his workshop.  He enjoyed many years traveling with Joanne and their Gold Wing motorcycle group.  He also enjoyed his coke, beer, a sandwich in 10, and a cigarette afterwards.  He was always willing to lend a hand and offer support to anyone in need.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Stroo Funeral Home located at 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508.  A funeral service to honor Roger's life will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at Stroo Funeral Home.

The family wishes to thank Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods (Paul) for their care of Roger during the past months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods in memory of Roger.

Roger will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of hard work and generosity will live on through his family and the many lives he touched during his time with us.

Joanne you have my heartfelt condolences. I just found out tonight about Roger’s passing. I will miss working out in the yard and not seeing and talking to Roger. He was a hard worker. Prayers for you and the family.
