Joseph Ray Black, aged 45, of Kentwood, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, March 17, 2021. Joe loved spending time with family and friends and always had a great sense of humor. He had a passion for sports and enjoyed keeping track of the players and their stats. His father, Amos "Lonnie" Stagg; uncle, Blake Pannill; and his grandparents; preceded him in death. Joe will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his mother, Shawn Shepard; sister, Regina (Frank) Bednarsky; nephew, Brody; niece, Jersey; uncles, Mike (Chris) Pannill, Eric (Jeni) Pannill; aunt, Tonyah Pannill; and numerous beloved cousins. The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, March 22, 2021 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM at Stroo Funeral Home, where a service in celebration of his life will begin at 7:30 PM.  Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Joe may be made to Lifewater (lifewater.org)  Joe's recent ambition was to raise awareness and funds to buy at least one well and provide water, health, and hope of Jesus to the children and families of rural parts of Africa. Joey you were such a bright spot for me in what was otherwise a pretty dark and painful childhood. You were my confidant, and I'm remembering all the childhood pacts we made. It's been 25 years since we spoke, but I find myself missing your camaraderie now something fierce. You were so smart and sweet and funny -- I was so sure you'd grow up to be an accountant or statistician of some sort -- it tickles me to no end to learn you'd applied your love of numbers to sports and managed a nice little side hustle out of it. I dearly hope you found people who cherished you in life. If not, then one of these days I'll find you in the afterlife and help you make up for lost time.

Rest in peace, cousin. I love you.
