John K. Lapchak "Lappy", age 80, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. John grew up in Chicago until moving to the Grand Rapids area,  graduating from Ottawa Hills. He would go on to attend college, get married, and start a family in Kentwood, Michigan, where he stayed the rest of his life. He began his career at Michigan National Bank, served in the United States Army Reserve and retired at the Meijer Corporation. John enjoyed a morning tee time, an afternoon Wolverine win and a Sinatra song at sunset. But more, much more than this, he loved his family. If you were honored to know this dear man, you were also considered family to him. Dad, Mr. Lapchak, Uncle Johnny, Papa John, or Lappy, you will be truly missed. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Margaret Lapchak; and sister, Janet Swanberg-O'Barr.  He is survived by his children, Tracey (Kevin) Waite, Bradley Lapchak, Cindy (Dana) Forte; grandchildren, Tyler Waite, Kaylee Waite, Olivia Forte, Taylor Forte; sister, Darlene (Jim) vanRavensway; loads of spectacular cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 15, from 4 - 6 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI.
