Marvin Anthony Broersma (Marv) departed this earthly life, at age 94, for the glorious entry into eternity as a follower of Jesus Christ, his Savior, on Friday, May 5, 2023, at the Rivertown Ridge Assisted Living facility in Grandville, MI. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and even great, great grandfather who will be greatly missed!

He was born September 19, 1928, in NW Iowa (Ireton) and then lived in SW Minnesota (Ruthton) before his family moved to Eastern and NW Washington State (Lynden).  He was the 2nd son of twelve siblings born to Lawrence and Grace (Wickers) Broersma.  He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings: Garrett Broersma, Lloyd Broersma, Robert Broersma, Theodore Broersma, Marjory DeYoung, and Benjamin Broersma. He is survived by his wife, Christine, and by his siblings, Elsie Roosma, Joyce Friend, H. Dennis Broersma, Dorothy Bredeweg, and Kenneth Broersma.

After several years of schooling, Marv moved to SW Michigan and met and married Christine Berkenpas and they had 7 boys: Jerry (Annette) Broersma, Rog (Margaret) Broersma, David (Susan) Broersma, Richard (Dottie) Broersma, Steven (Beth) Broersma, Marlin (Karla) Broersma, and Terry (Vickie) Broersma.  These children were born in Washington State, Michigan, Washington State, California, and Washington State.  The family finally moved back to West Michigan in 1969 and this became home for most of the family for many years. During these years the children were married and produced 20 grandchildren for Marv and Chris.  These grandchildren have since produced 36 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild!  Marv and Chris were married in 1950 and celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on September 15, 2022. It seems they tenaciously stuck with their wedding vows and produced an abundance of offspring!

Marv worked at several different jobs over his lifetime including factory labor, construction, dairy farming, janitorial service, cemetery maintenance, building inspection (for both Byron and Gaines Townships, 16 years), and even truck driving after retiring from construction and building inspection. But his main work was in building and construction, finish carpentry work, and building inspection though he often held several jobs at once --no job too challenging!  After Marv formally retired, he and Chris spent about 20 years doing volunteer work with the CRWRC and Wycliffe Bible Translators, in Catalina, AZ, where experienced construction labor was needed and appreciated.

Marv and Chris were committed Christians and were members of the Christian Reformed Church throughout most of their lives.  In their later years they attended Bible churches and became members at Byron Center Bible Church. The last couple of years since COVID, they have not been able to attend due to declining health and they greatly missed the fellowship they had enjoyed so much.

A visitation will be held at Byron Center Bible Church on May 17 at 10am., with a funeral service following at 11am. Interment will immediately follow the service at Winchester Cemetery on 76th Street in Byron Township and a lunch following will be provided at Byron Center Bible Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Wycliffe Bible Translators (www.wycliffe.org) or Byron Center Bible Church (8855 Byron Center Ave SW, Byron Center, MI 49315; www.byronbible.org)
