Gerard W. "Jerry" Van Zalen, age 94, went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 29, 2022. He was born to John and Mary Van Zalen on December 11, 1927.  They lived in Grand Rapids, MI, where Jerry continued to reside for all his life, remembering when 28th St. was a dirt road.  Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  As a lifelong member, of Kelloggsville Christian Reformed Church, he was baptized with his parents and holds the record for being the longest living member. Jerry was happily married to his first wife, Lorraine, for 43 years until her untimely passing in 1993.  Jerry married Marie (Feenstra) Van Zalen in 1996.  He was a man of strong convictions and principles.  He cherished his family and adored spending time with them.  He had a love for life and laughed often.  Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, travel and good old western movies.  Jerry is lovingly remembered by his wife of 26 years, Marie; his children, Larry Van Zalen, Ronald (Deb) Van Zalen, Sherrie (Jim) Shaddox, Rick (Faith) Van Zalen, Bob (Roxanne) Van Zalen; his stepdaughter, Cindy (Rick) Scheltema; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his brother, Tom (Elaine) Van Zalen; his sister-in-law, Marion Van Zalen; several nieces and nephews; many loving extended family and friends.   A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, May 24, at Kelloggsville Christian Reformed Church, 610 52nd St. SE, Kentwood, MI 49548, with a one-hour visitation prior to the service from 10:30 - 11:30 AM.  Rev. Martin Benckhuysen will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice.
