William (Bill) John Oomkes, age 83, of Byron Center, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.  As we anticipate celebrating our Lord Jesus Christ’s victory over death and the grave, we are comforted by the words of the angel at the mouth of the tomb, “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said” (Matt. 28:6).  Bill is survived by his 5 children, Sheryl, Joan (Steve) Vander Ziel, Mary (Jim) Brander, Mark (Amy) Oomkes, Jodi (Arjen) Vreugdenhil; 20 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; siblings, Ruth (Doug) Ryskamp, Karlene Holleman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jean (Roger) Van Koevering, Marilyn (Ronald) Smith, Marvin (Donna) DeVries, Sherwin (Donna) DeVries, Marie DeVries.  He was preceded in death last November by his wife, of 61 years, Ardith.  Bill was the owner of Oomkes Landscape Mgt for over 40  years. He had a passion for the green industry and was honored to serve on the Master Plan Advisory Board at the Frederick Meijer Gardens.  He enjoyed mentoring others, whether it be competitors or young people.  He spent several years as a landscape instructor with the Inner City Christian Federation getting young people excited about the green industry.  Bill and Ardith also had a passion for traveling and enjoyed many international trips at the British Reformed Fellowship conference meeting and worshipping with saints from around the globe.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 2, at 3:00 PM at Grandville Protestant Reformed Church, 4320 40th St SW, with Rev Nathan Decker officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to British Reformed Fellowship, please make checks payable to Mary Stewart with BRF in the memo section, c/o Brian Dykstra 7869 Oak Tree Lane, Hudsonville, MI 49426 or Philippine Book Fund, c/o Grandville Protestant Reformed Church, 4320 40th St SW, Grandville, MI 49418
