On Saturday, January 30, 2021, Gregg Walter Ottaway, age 56, of Caledonia, was called unexpectedly and suddenly to his Heavenly home. Gregg graduated from Sherman High School 1983. Gregg served in the U.S Army and was stationed in Germany which lead to many adventures as he continued to live in Germany for 10 years. Gregg was highly involved in the German- American Club, Dog sledding and has remained close with all of his German friends. While in Germany, Gregg completed his graduate studies to become an electrical engineer and learned how to speak Fluent German. Gregg was able to use his adventurous spirit to continue his career working for a German Company which allowed him to continue his travels both in the US and other countries. Gregg became the Service Manager for Walter- Trowal LLC – where he also gained many friendships. Gregg had so many hobbies – watching his boys play travel hockey, fishing, hunting, golfing, sailing, Kayaking, camping and traveling. He loved learning about other people, cultures, food and wine. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 17 years, Stacey; sons, Nash (12) and Reid (10); mother, Glendine Ottaway; brother, Dean (Heidi) Ottaway; parents-in-law, Dan and Terri Gilmer; sisters-in-law, Nicole (Phil) Henrikson, Lindsay Gilmer; nieces, Rachel (Bill) Denz, Becca (Brody) Carpenter; Ava Swartzlander; nephews, Nathan Ottaway, Brock, Trey, Gage, Kane and Coy Henriksen; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from all over the world. Gregg’s driving force was his devotion to his family. He was kind-hearted, a master story- teller and a jokester, helpful to everyone and dedicated to being a father and a husband. He was a mentor to many – including his Friday Friends at Discovery elementary school. He could always be relied upon for popcorn movie nights, game nights, hockey prep talks to the boys, cookie decorating, grilling, making special drinks & food. He will be remembered as a bright light, happy smile and helping hand to those who knew him. Gregg will be reunited and greeted in Heaven from his father, Richard Ottaway, and grandfather, Walt Ottaway. The family will greet visitors on Saturday, February 6, from 1pm - 3pm at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE. Due to COVID restrictions, private Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 on Saturday with live streaming available from Cornerstone Church.
