Memorials: Bethany Christian Services

Lillian Mae Ludema, age 88, was welcomed to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 5, 2020. Lill was a devoted wife, kind mother, loving grandmother, dedicated nurse, caring friend and faithful follower of Jesus Christ, her Savior. She loved her life, and daily sought to enhance the lives of others. Lill was born on August 28, 1932 to Gerrit and Minnie Frieswyk in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She graduated from Grand Rapids Christian and studied at Calvin and Blodgett Hospital to become an RN. After meeting on a blind date, Lill married Gord Ludema on April 1, 1955. They spent 43 years in Battle Creek, where she had an open-door policy for anyone in need. All the little neighborhood children came to visit her daily. Lill taught singing in Sunday school and tutored underprivileged children in school. She worked in a variety of nursing capacities, using her compassion to help, including many friends needing a consult. Lill enjoyed yearly family camping in Grand Haven, especially with her sisters, all known for their matching laughter. In 2000, Lill and Gord returned to Grand Rapids to be near their children and grandchildren. She was a member of Brookside Christian Reformed Church, sharing her smile and encouragement to members and guests. She leaves behind her husband of 65 years, Gordon Ludema; children, Gary (Vicky) Ludema, Laura (Dale) Potter, Linda (David) Spencer; grandchildren, Alyssa (Chris) Nance, Geoff (Kristen) Ludema, Greg Ludema, Grant Ludema; Audrey Potter, Michael (Lauren) Potter, Amanda Potter; Jenna Spencer, Luke (Cassie) Spencer, Jack Spencer; great grandson, Beckham Nance - who brightened her days; sister, Shirley VandenBrink; and many more beloved family and friends. She was greeted in heaven by her parents, brothers, Fred and Cal, sisters, Marcia and Gloria, dear in-laws and friends. A visitation will be held as a masked drive-through under the canopy at Hillside Community Church, 1440 68th St. SE, on Sunday, December 6, from 2 - 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, consider giving to Bethany Christian Services.
