Shelly A. Alman, age 52, of Caledonia, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 surrounded by her family. Shelly courageously battled cancer since the age of 17. She was born in East Grand Rapids, MI on July 7, 1968 to Jack and Janet (DeJong) Alman. A graduate of Calvin College, Shelly worked as a business manager for many years. She enjoyed volunteering for the American Cancer Society and the Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association, being involved in her church as a mentor for the developmentally challenged  in "Friends at Peace", and especially enjoyed being a "second mom" to her niece Taylor (Doodlebug).  She was preceded in death by Shawn, her husband of 25 years. Shelly will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her parents, Jack and Janet Alman; sister, Sheri Alman, niece, Taylor; parents-in-law, Sugath and Amitha Jayasekera Weerasooriya; brothers-in-law, Chanaka (Chuck) and Dulcie Weerasooriya, Sanjo and Krysta Weerasooriya; nephew and nieces, Evan, Kayla, Tessa Weerasooriya; and numerous friends. The family extends sincere thanks to all who helped Shelly during her cancer journey, especially Dr. Notman who has been there from the start, and to Faith Hospice who provided such loving care during her final days. The family will greet visitors on Saturday, September 12, from 9:30 - 11 am at Peace Church, 6950 Cherry Valley Rd., Middleville, where the funeral service will begin at 11 am.  Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Caledonia. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

I came to town late on Wednesday, and have been trying to reach Shelly all week. Now, I know. Sheri, I am so sorry for your loss. Shelly was a great individual with a great, big heart. “Only the good die young.” Billy Joel
