Mr. William M. Van Setten, age 88, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, July 24, 2020. Born in the Netherlands, Bill immigrated to Michigan at age 18 and was proud to become an American citizen. Bill loved his family and his Lord. He was a social butterfly and enjoyed gardening, horses, camping at Ludington, spending his summers at Sandy Pines for 25 years, and volunteering at Project Hope. He made a mean pot of Dutch soup and won the Silver Ladle Award for his recipe. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lottherus and Bastiana (Garstman) Van Setten; his sisters, Elizabeth De Keizer and Maria Riemersma; brothers-in-law, Jack Reurink, Peter Riemersma, Bud Clark, and Gene LeClair. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Judy; children, Rich (Deb) Van Setten, Rose (Mitch) Dahms, Matt (Jan) Burgess; grandchildren, Tyler (Alissa) Van Setten, Kendra Van Setten, Shelby (Scott) Weller, Nicholas (Mandy) Dahms, Justin (Julie) Dahms, Bradley (Megan) Dahms, Michelle (Chad) Allerding, Samantha (Joe) Hehir, Darren Burgess, LCPL (USMC) Jameson Burgess; 12 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sisters, Lena (Henry) Kamp and Charlotte Van Setten; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nina Clark, Joanna LeClair, Joyce (Tim) Walker, Mike (Marty) Clark; many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the wonderful nurses from Faith Hospice and Spectrum Butterworth 9C for taking such kind, compassionate care of Bill. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28, from 12:30 - 2:00 PM at Second Christian Reformed Church of Byron Center, 7588 Byron Center Ave. SW, where the funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Adam Nordyke. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, face mask and social distancing guidelines must be followed, and a fellowship luncheon will not be possible. Interment will follow in Kent Memorial Gardens, with the committal service officiated by Dr. Joel Beeke.
