Harmon "Harm" D. Diemer was born October 8, 1934 to the late Everett and Henrietta Diemer of Cutlerville, MI. Harm left this world to join his Savior on Monday, June 15, 2020. He graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School and attended Calvin College majoring in psychology and sociology. Harm volunteered for the army after high school and was stationed in Fort Monroe Virginia as a Med Tech. After serving his country, Harm returned to West Michigan where he married his best friend, pal and love of his life, Shirley (Roelofs). Harm and Shirley were a fixture on South Division for 40 years operating Diemer's Motor Sales. Together they sold countless vehicles for four decades with many repeat customers. Not only did Harm sell cars but also dump trucks, tractors, golf carts and anything with a motor and wheels. One of Harm's better-known business successes was to sell older model rust-free vehicles that he purchased while wintering in Arizona. Harm’s passion for vehicles was only surpassed by his desire to fly aircraft. Both he and Shirley were licensed pilots and Harm was also licensed to sell aircraft. In 1998 Harm and Shirley's life changed drastically when they were involved in a motor vehicle crash near their home. Harm was rendered an incomplete quadriplegic. Shirley kept by his side and has been his primary caregiver ever since. During the past 21 years, Harm's faith was renewed and strengthened in Christ while enjoying his family. He found singing and storytelling to be great pastimes. With Shirley's love and through the grace of God, Harm lived a wonderful and fulfilling life. Harm is survived by his bride of 64 years, Shirley; his daughters and sons-in-law, Debra (Russel) Tierney - grandchildren, Kevin, Rachel, Michelle, Dillon; Tamra (John) Greco-grandchildren, Ryan and Nicole Hamre and great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Skylar and Giuliana; Tracia (Brandon) DeHaan-grandchildren, Allyssa and Aaron Clark; Collin and Laura DeHaan-great granddaughter, Vivienne. Brothers and Sisters: brother, Everett (Linda Roelofs) Diemer, sister, Dena (Harold) Geelhoed; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Roelofs, sisters, Marcella Ulferts, Joan (Melvin) Ulferts, sisters-in-law, Arlet Roelofs, Lois Roelofs, brothers, Curt (Phylis) Roelofs, Roger (Marilyn) Roelofs, along with many nephews and nieces. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place, a private immediate family graveside service is being held on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. Per request of the family, no visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Princeton Christian Reformed Church. |
