Scotty Louise Connolly, age 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, following a six-month battle with brain cancer at her home on Kettle Lake on Sunday, May 24, 2020. She was born to the late J. Russel Forsyth and Cecelia Forsyth on October 9, 1939 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was a devoted wife to the late John Thomas (Doc) Connolly Sr.; mother to John Thomas Jr. and mother-in-law to Erin Lautenschleger Connolly. Scotty was a doting grandmother to her three grandchildren, Ryan, Baileigh, and Sean Connolly. Scotty was sister to Judson Forsyth and sister-in-law to Luanne Forsyth. She also leaves behind her beloved dog Toby, and mischievous cat, Patterson. She was dedicated and skilled at many hobbies, such as: quilting, sewing, cooking, baking, painting, and gardening. Scotty volunteered at Our Hope, where she taught quilting and sewing for women with substance abuse issues. Additionally, she was active with the Red Hat Society, participating in several parades throughout her hometown. Upon graduating from Borgess School of Nursing in 1960, she became an operating room and emergency room nurse in Boston, Mass. and Hartford, Connecticut. Later, Scotty would move back to Grand Rapids to work at Blodgett hospital for 30 years as the Infection Control Coordinator where she met her dearest friend, Cathy Moore. The two attended several infection control and HIV education conferences together, staying close through Scotty’s battle as Cathy helped with much of Scotty’s care. Scotty was extremely generous to others, becoming a teacher to many in her fields of expertise, quick-witted in her conversations with others, and enjoyed her 35 years of living on Kettle Lake; ensuring to keep an open and welcoming home for neighbors, friends, and family to stop by. A traditional Catholic Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Parish at 11:00 am on Monday, June 1, followed by a private burial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Father Joe (Walijewski), Scotty’s Uncle, for his mission in Lima, Peru at The Connolly family will greet visitors on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th Street SE in Cutlerville.
