 Jean Troost

Committal Service: Private  Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Pine Hill Cemetery

Wilma Jean Troost, aged 89, of Byron Township, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 of congestive heart failure.  Mrs. Troost was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She served as business manager for Byron Center Public Schools in the early 1960s, and as Deputy Byron Township clerk in the 1970s.  She was a member of the Reformed Church in America, belonging successively to Olivet Reformed, Woodhaven Reformed, and Central Reformed Churches. She lost her father at a very young age and was raised by her mother who was a school teacher, principal and superintendent in the 1920's and 30's. She valued education and, though circumstances twice prevented her from completing her college degree, she made sure her three sons all graduated college. She was always reading a book and she read exclusively non-fiction her entire life.  She loved to knit, quilt and sew and her abilities and the results were amazing to see. She devoted her life to her family and was a blessing and a strong positive influence on them all. She was especially dedicated to the well being of each of her grandchildren. In her later years she enjoyed being part of the Central Reformed Church knitting group, and she was most pleased to re-connect with the Woodhaven Reformed Church Women's Bible Study group who were a real blessing to her. Family members who preceded in death were her parents, Martin and Edna Van Haitsma of Byron Township; her sister, Martina Mae Van Haitsma; her husband, Paul; and her son, Michael J. Troost.  Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Paul M. (Patricia) of Grandville, and James R. (Kimberly) of South Lyon; her eight grandchildren, John, Evan, Connor, Thomas, Sydney, Collin, Karyn and Jeffrey; her two great granddaughters, Gwendolyn and Indigo; and her brother, Paul Van Haitsma.  There will be a committal service on Saturday, June 6, at Pine Hill Cemetery, Kentwood, MI
