Esther Mae Van Vugt was born to Peter and Anna Ver Hoeven on August 29, 1928 in Strasburg, North Dakota. She entered her heavenly home on May 25, 2020. She was married to her husband, Gerrit, for 56 years until his death in 2002. Their children include Char Farwell, Peter and Diane Van Vugt, Alva and Rev. Audred Spriensma. As well as her parents and her husband, Esther was preceded in death by her brothers, Anthony and Gene Ver Hoeven; son-in-law, Laurel Farwell; and granddaughter, Danielle Farwell. In addition to her children, Esther is survived by 10 grandchildren and their spouses, as well as 33 great grandchildren; her brother, Maurice; sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; countless dear friends and fellow church members. After farming in North Dakota for almost 20 years, Esther and Gerrit served as missionaries in Nigeria, Africa for seven years. They later settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Esther worked at Pine Rest Hospital for 23 years. For several years, they opened their home to families who brought loved ones to stay at Pine Rest. She will be lovingly remembered as a woman who loved her Savior and her family, one who lived and shared her faith. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours: and their works do follow them." (Rev. 4:13). Due to current health restrictions, private family services will be held. Interment in Blain Cemetery. |
