Richard (Dick) Gumbert passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 3, 2020 after lovingly being looked after for several years by his beloved wife, Jane Gumbert; then eldest son, Randy and daughter in law, Gail.
Dick was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Korean conflict.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved wildlife, nature, hunting and fishing. He became most animated when regaling others of his many lifetime adventures, especially his annual hunting trips to Canada. Dick channeled his passion for the outdoors and wildlife into woodwork, carving and painting. His duck carvings, in particular, became a meticulously hand-crafted collection and was just one of his favorite activities in retirement.
He adored his wife of 64 years, enjoyed family get-togethers and would occasionally break out in song.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ethel Gumbert; brothers, Howard, Thomas and David; his loving wife, Jane Gumbert and daughter in law, Karen Gumbert. He is survived by his children, Randy Gumbert (wife) Gail Gumbert, Robert Gumbert and Barbara Smoyer; his grandchildren, Jennifer Gumbert (husband to be) Oliver Yared, Melissa Gumbert, Renee Gumbert, Anthony Mosketti and (wife) Patty Mosketti; as well as his great grandchild, Nora Yared and a soon to be born great grandchild. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Interment in Roseland Memorial Gardens, Jackson, MI. Contributions in memory of Dick may be made to the American Cancer Society.
