John Kooiker, age 75 of Dutton, met his Lord and Savior face to face and is now pain free forever in the presence of the King of Kings as of Thursday, Feb 27, 2020.  John was a devoted husband and caring father and grandfather.  John was a humble man of simple pleasures and loved the outdoors, especially spending time at his cabin near Boyne Falls.  One of his greatest joys was spending time watching his grandchildren play sports and spending time with them at his cabin up north.  John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and worked as a Tool and Die Maker for many years.  John also used his engineering and business skills to start up and run Kooiker Tool & Die and J & J Engineering, as well as to obtain several patents.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Kooikerfather-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Ethel VanLaar; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marlene and Ken Kleinheksel; brother-in-law, Jerry (Gus) Kuiphof; and future son-in-law, Ken Detwiler.  John will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Kooiker; children, Julie Kalmink, Kim (Curt) VanSolkema, Pam (Greg) Mileski; grandchildren, Lindsay, Nathan and Emily Kalmink, Taylor, Sam and David (fiancee Kiley Stuller) VanSolkema, Ray, Audrey and Holly Mileski; siblings, Cal (Darlene) Kooiker; Bette (Roger) VanDerKolk, Janet (Jerry) Schmidt; in-laws, Barb Kuiphof, Nancy (Jim) Engen; several nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank Faith Hospice, especially Victoria, his nurse, for the loving care she provided him. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, from 9:30 – 11:00 am at Friendship Christian Reformed Church, 190 100th St. SE, where a service of Praise and Thanksgiving for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ will begin at 11:00 am with a light lunch to follow.  Pastor Cal Compagner will officiate. Interment will be in Dutton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to South Christian High School Building Fund or Friendship CRC Benevolence or Mission Fund.   "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God..."
