Adriana (Post) Ophoff went to be with her Lord and Savior very early in the morning on January 13, 2020.  Adriana was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on March 10, 1931, the youngest of seven children.  She graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School, maintaining friendships with several high school friends until she died.

She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and enjoyed working at Blodgett Hospital for many years.  After she retired from nursing, she did private duty nursing and went on to volunteer at the Holland Home for over 25 years. She also worked as a volunteer at the hospital delivering flowers to patients.  She was a compassionate, hardworking nurse and had a wonderful way with elderly people, making them feel valued and loved.  Nursing truly was her passion and she had a caregiver’s heart.  Adriana enjoyed all the holidays, did a lot of entertaining, was a great hostess, and had a rollicking sense of humor.

Adriana married her high school sweetheart, Edward Ophoff, on October 20, 1952.   Ed was in the Air Force in Germany and Adriana boarded a boat, married him in Furstenfeldbruck, Germany, and they lived there for two years while he finished his term of service.

Adriana was a devoted beachgoer and spent many long, languid days on the beaches of Lake Michigan relaxing in the sun and enjoying the water.  She and Ed also traveled extensively and took many happy vacations together.  Adriana had a heart for animals and allowed her children to bring many pets into the home, often to her husband’s dismay.  She also had an amazing green thumb and grew many houseplants, at one point nurturing 72 of them.  She always had starters of new plants in glasses on the kitchen windowsill, growing them to give away as gifts to others.

Adriana grew up in Grandville Avenue Christian Reformed Church, then was a member at First Protestant Reformed Church, and after that a member at Southeast Protestant Reformed Church for the last thirty years of her life.  Ed and Adriana lived on Calvin Avenue, a pleasant SE side neighborhood of Grand Rapids, for 30 years, raising their family of five children and making many great memories.   They had a loving, lively, faithful marriage for 67 years.

She leaves to mourn her dear, much-loved husband and best friend, Edward Carl Ophoff, Sr., her children, Eric (Marilyn) Ophoff of Indiana, Edward, Jr. (Elizabeth) Ophoff, Mark (Cindy) Ophoff, Faith (Jim) Noorman, all of the Grand Rapids area, Joy (Ray) Schwarz of Colorado, 20 grandchildren and their spouses, and 47 great grandchildren. Including Ed and Adriana, the Ophoff family totaled 97 people.  Also left to mourn is her brother, Bill (Florence) Post and her sisters-in-law Louise (late Herman) Ophoff and Catherine (late George) Ophoff, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

As a family, we thank our heavenly Father for the 88 years He gave our mom here on earth. Her life was the example of a godly wife and mother, and her faith was a verb, shown in words and actions. We also thank Him for delivering her from this world to be forever with Him, singing with His angels.

A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16, from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. followed by a 7:00 p.m. memorial service at Byron Center Protestant Reformed Church, 1945 84th St. S.W., Byron Center, MI. Due to health concerns, please, no flowers, essential oils, or colognes.
