Russell "Russ" Lloyd Brinks, age 74, peacefully met Jesus in heaven on Saturday, January 4th, 2020, after bravely battling Parkinson's disease for 17 years. Russ was a faithful husband, married to his loving high school sweetheart Helen (DeHaan) Brinks for 52 years. He was a devoted father and caring grandpa. Russ will be remembered for his diligence to detail in everything he did. He was admired for his leadership skills and was a role model in his love for the Lord. His favorite verse was Romans 8:28, and favorite song was Amazing Grace. Russ retired from the Michigan Department of Transportation as a Traffic Technician after decades of service. One of his great legacies is the sign placement on the M6 Highway. Russ served in the National Guard for six years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Catherine (Sikkema) Brinks; brother, Alvin Lee; and grandson, Evan Russell Neumaier. Surviving are his wife Helen (DeHaan) Brinks, children, Randall (Shelli) Brinks, Dawn (Paul) Neumaier,  Glenn (Monica) Brinks; grandchildren, Ethan and Coryn Brinks, Claire and Meredith Neumaier, Zach, Tyler, and Hannah Brinks; brothers and sister, Raymond (Mary) Brinks, Donald (Jeri) Brinks, David (Janice) Brinks, Beth (Donald) Grasman, Kenneth (Beth) Brinks; brother-in-law, Stan (Jeanne) DeHaan; sister-in-law, Julie Horn Alexander; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the loving care provided to Russ by the staff at Byron Manor and Kindred Care over the past year and a half. The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, January 9, from 6-8 p.m. and Friday, January 10, from 10-11 a.m. at Stroo Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 10, 2020 at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th Street, SE; with Dr. Michael Brinks officiating. Interment in Blain Cemetery. I worked with Russ early in my career at MDOT in GR and he was the nicest guy that I met while working there. He was always so helpful hand to me when bringing in computer equipment and supplies. He was missed when he retired and will always be remembered now. (Sharita, IT Manager)
