Gary and I joined Dow Ag Products at about the same time in the mid-1980s and I quickly realized how fortunate I was to work with one of the finest chemists I’ve ever known, and more importantly, one of the most positive, optimistic people I’d ever known. On our projects, Gary would not accept “No” as an answer, as he was always able to work around an obstacle and find a solution. I suspect that these same qualities carried over into his life with family, which I suspect Gary would hold as his greatest joy. Think of the legacy he left you -- a curiosity about life, a hunger for knowledge, a passion for the outdoors, an example of a life whose riches owe little to money, a sense that anything is possible if you work hard, a model of what a father and husband should be. Those are all great gifts. Cherish them. Gary was clearly blessed to have you all, as you were to have him.

Gary was an amazing mentor and friend when I was his co-op out at "the farm". He inspired me to be an authentic scientist. I would not be where I am today were it not for his encouragement and unwavering support. Many thanks Gary

Gary was one of the first scientists I worked with out at “the farm” when I joined Dow in 1988. Down the years I always respected Gary for his high degree of technical skill and his straightforward no-BS personal style. While we only worked together on a few projects, I followed his career from afar (Indianapolis) and was glad to see the recognition he received in recent years. Gary touched many Dow/Dow Agro folks down the years and he will be remembered fondly and missed.
