James H. Platschore, age 101, of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 28, 2019. Jim was a WWII Veteran, an honor guard for President Roosevelt's funeral and served in England during the Blitz. He lived his life in a way that quietly showed his faith in his Lord and Savior, his love for and devotion to his wife, Jessie, who was also his best friend and his children. He was a caring, fun-loving father and grandfather and leaves so many precious memories. He was a friend to many and always there to lend a hand. He especially loved camping with his family and in later years traveling with Jessie. After his honorable discharge from the Army/Air Force, he joined his father-in-law, Jacob Wesseling, and brother-in-law, Stuart Wesseling, as owners of Wesseling and Sons Floor Sanding and in later years worked as an engraver for Forbes Stamp Company. He was a long-time member of Creston Christian Reformed Church and served as a deacon. Jim will be deeply missed by his children, Elaine (Eric) Robleske, Marilyn (John) Fry, Jack (Kaye) Platschore; grandchildren, Kerry Robleske, Scott Robleske, Kevin Fry, Kimberly Fry, nephews, David (Mary) Montgomery, Larry Schouwanaar; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Jessie; his parents, William and Jennie Platschore; sister and brother-in-law, Harriet (Claude) Montgomery; brother and sister-in-law, Russ (Gertrude) Schouwanaar; nieces, Jane Montgomery Miller, Laurie Wesseling VanBeek; and nephews, Stuart J. Wesseling and Richard Schouwanaar. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, from 1:30 - 2:15 pm at Rest Haven Homes, 1424 Union Ave. NE; where the funeral service will begin at 2:15 pm, Rev. Lew VanderMeer officiating. Interment will be in Fairplains Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rest Haven Homes. Arrangements by:
