Warren Burgess, 91, of Grand Rapids, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 with his family who adored him by his side. Warren was born on December 16, 1927, in Grand Rapids, the son of Arthur and Alice Burgess. He was brought up on the family farm on 100th street, attended Caledonia High School, Hope College and graduated from Western Theological Seminary in 1952. Warren married the love of his life, Jean Wright, on August 19, 1949, and together they launched into a life of ministry that lasted 67 years. Over the coming years they served churches in Muskegon, Clinton, Iowa, Grand Rapids, Hamilton and Traverse City.  It soon became clear that Warren had been called, above and beyond all else, to preach the Gospel, to be a care provider for those within and outside of his congregations and also to be the patriarch over five generations of Burgess’. In 1992 he was elected Vice President of the General Synod of the Reformed Church in America and assumed the Presidency the following year. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alice Burgess; brother and his wife, Donald and Dee Burgess. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years, Jean; children, Kathy (Bob) Piers, Mike (Pat) Burgess, Randy (Joan) Burgess, Daniel (Lori) Burgess, Timothy (Heidi) Burgess; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Harold (Norine) Burgess, Joan (Ronald) Johnson, Dick (Mick) Burgess; and many nieces and nephews. The family will greet relatives and friends at Corinth Reformed Church on Saturday, February 23rd  from 2 to 4 pm and Sunday, February 24th from 1 to 2:15 pm.  Funeral Services will be held 2:30 pm Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Corinth Reformed Church, 129 100th Street, SE; with Rev. Don Porter officiating. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Warren may be made to Western Theological Seminary.

I have wonderful memories of Rev Burgess Jean and the whole Burgess family while I was a member at Faith Reformed Church in Traverse City, I know Rev Burgess is celebrating with Jesus now I thank God for the gifts he gave Rev Burgess and how he shared his gifts with so many people

Warren has now moved on in the journey he so passionately told others about. God’s speed Warren. He was a role model to me growing up as a family member, friend to my Burgess and Huizenga aunts and uncles, successful member of the Corinth community and pastor to my family. His visits with Dad and Mom as they struggled through life and death issues and sister Sandy as caregiver was special and priceless and clearly a God thing. Jean and family thank you for your support and love as well as your visits and planted flowers

Saddened to hear about the worlds loss of Rev. Burgess. He made a big impact on my life as a teenager. Then was the pastor who married us 44+ years ago. Such a vibrant caring man of God.
No doubt where he is now Though he will be missed greatly also comforting knowing he is with God now.
