Service: HELD AT A LATER DATE

F. Russell Bullis, age 91, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 and went home to be with his Lord. Russ was a graduate of Godwin High School, class of '44, where he was class president and involved in many sports. He honorably served in the U.S. Army in WWII and in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. His career was in the U.S. Post Office and last served as supervisor of the Kentwood Post Office. After retiring, he and Sally enjoyed nearly 30 years wintering in Mission, Texas. He will be deeply and lovingly missed by his wife of 71 years,  Sally; his children, Russ (Betsy) Bullis, Gail (Bob) Weaver, Laura (Fred) Spica; his Chilean exchange student daughter, Marta Barbosa; nine grandchildren, Beth (Herb) Engman, Scott (Heather) Bullis, Rob (Joy) Weaver, Joel (Heidi) Weaver, Paul (Becky) Weaver, Dan Weaver, Karri Spica, Mark Spica, Alexander Barbosa; 17 great grandchildren and one on the way. Russ was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He modeled love for his wife every day, and had her on his heart always. He was a selfless man of integrity and honor. Our families wish to express sincere appreciation to the caring staff of Cambridge Manor and Spectrum Health Hospice who have provided such loving care. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

I had the pleasure of caring for Russ at the manor. Russ quickly became one of my very favorites with his soft humor, love for his wife and his desire for cookies late at night. I truly enjoyed getting him ready for his days and sitting down with him for a few quiet moments each morning before I was off shift. Russ will truly be missed, praying for the entire family during this time.

I had the privilege of caring for Russ at Cambridge Manor. He brought me so much joy every day. He would always say "Hola amigo, gotta cookie?" I loved his stories about him and Sally, his time working for the post office, as well as serving in the army and navy. He also loved to tell me stories about Marta. I thought it was so adorable to see how much he loved Sally, always remembering to kiss her goodnight and always making sure someone was taking care of her. I miss hearing his walker wheels squeaking down the hallway and most of all, his hugs!

We are so very sorry to hear this news. But so comforted to know that he is with our Lord. Losing a parent is so hard. Your parents were the epitome of what a joyful/selfless marriage looks like. Your dad was always so genuine & kind, very loving & always putting your mom first. He will be missed by everyone who knew him, but has left a wonderful legacy that will remain forever.
Sending love & prayers to all of you, Dan & Patty

Russ, Gail and Laura, I'm sorry to hear of your father passing. I always enjoyed the family gatherings and visiting with him. He was always smiling, happy and kind. It was very nice that he came to my dad's service and wish that had more time then to talk with him. Please take good care of yourselves. Let me know when you have a formal service. Jerry and Sue
