Jean Edythe (Anderson) Kruger, age 80,of Cutlerville, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Edythe Anderson. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Paul Kruger, and his wife, Beth, of Elgin, IL; her step-granddaughter, Laura Bernardoni, and her husband, Zach, of Huntley, IL.

Jean was grateful for the education she received from the University of Michigan where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1959.  She also obtained two masters degrees, one being from Wayne State University in Education.  She was an instructor at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center School of Nursing from 1966 until it closed in 1987.  She then became the Director of Nursing at Porter Hills Retirement Village for five years when she moved on to work as a surveyor of nursing homes for the State of Michigan until her retirement in 2007.

She loved the richness of stories, whether it be reading a book in her living room or on her back porch, reading to the children at Southwood Elementary school, or the stage. She had a passion for the political climate and the shape of history, past and present.  She volunteered her time as a CASA worker; at the Army National Guard; helping people navigate Medicare and Medicaid questions for the state, and with the Kent Garden Club.

As Jean requested, interment has taken place at Kent Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Fountain Street Church, 24 Fountain St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jean may be made to Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods in Byron Center, MI. Jean will be missed by many whose lives she touched.

Jean Kruger was an amazing woman, who was loved and respected by all who knew her. My family and I were blessed to have her for a neighbor growing up on Kenton, as well as her parents who lived next door. She will be sadly missed, with sympathy, Colleen (Denner) Schroeder
