Carolyn Jean Meyering, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. She is survived by Carl (Ruth) Meyering, Keith (Susan) Meyering, Nancy (Bruce) Meyering-Zerns, and Kelli (Les) Smith, and their families. Born in the small northern-Michigan town of McBain on December 8, 1929, Carolyn was the last of four siblings. Carolyn graduated from McBain High School in 1948 and worked for a time at a factory in Marion. Soon after, she met her neighbor: Hein Meyering. He was tall and handsome, and fresh from a two year stint in the Marine Corp during World War II. They soon became engaged and were married on March 11, 1949. She was 18 and he was 21. Hein worked at the local farmers co-op which prospered under his management. His talents brought him an offer to manage a bigger farm supply cooperative in Allegan in 1955. Thus began a career journey that involved ten moves over 35 years as he climbed the corporate ladder. Carolyn adopted the routine of a 1950's stay at home wife and mother: attending church twice on Sundays and doing laundry on Mondays. Their family increased with the birth of Carl in 1950 and Keith in 1952, and the addition of Nancy in 1964 and Kelli in 1965. Cooking was not Carolyn’s passion, but could she ever make homemade bread!  Almost every Saturday for 35 years she would gather various ingredients from memory and bake two loaves. The aroma of fresh bread would fill the house. Friends knew when to "drop by" for a sampling. She loved relaxing in the sun and Mantovani, Her "addiction" to chocolate was legendary. Carolyn loved her Lord and congregations, especially Haven Reformed in Kalamazoo, and Kentwood Community in Grand Rapids. In later years she and Hein purchased retirement property on Gun Lake and enjoyed hosting the grandchildren for summer weekends of swimming, jet skiing, and bonfires with smores. An 11 AM service will be held for Carolyn on Monday morning, October 16, 2017, in the chapel at Raybrook Manor of Holland Home, 2121 Raybrook SE, Grand Rapids. Visitation will begin at 10 AM with a light luncheon to follow the service. The family would like to thank the staff of the Cook Unit of Raybrook Manor for the excellent level care they provided. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holland Home Foundation or Bethany Christian Services.
